The president of Palmeiras has revealed his disappointment at the Superior Court of Sports Justice’s decision to not take action on the controversial match against Internacional.

The STJD decided against aning the result after ruling that there was insufficient evidence that the referee used television replays in his decision to disallow Hernan Barcos’ goal.

President Arnaldo Tirone told reporters: “We knew it was an uphill battle, but we have to fight to defend Palmeiras’ rights. We came here to defend our rights, cancelling a game is tricky but we tried.”

But Tirone still maintains that television replays were used by the officials: “The fact is, in our view, there was outside interference in the decision to disallow the goal. So we defended our rights.”

Tirone also revealed that Palmeiras are considering an appeal: “I’ll talk with the lawyers to see what happened. But we must focus on winning the matches ahead.”
