Diego Souza has instructed his representatives to look for a move away from his current club, Al-Ittihad, after not being paid since joining the club earlier this year. The player’s preference seems to be a return to Brazil, with former club Vasco da Gama interested.

Souza, 27, was signed to be the main star of the Saudi Arabian club but it appears his days in the Middle East are numbered and the playmaker has hired Marcos Motta, a lawyer who specialises in sports law, to look into the possibilities of a termination of his contract.

The former Vasco player has asked to be left out of his club’s Asian Champions League semi-final second leg against Al Ahli on Wednesday but has refused to speak about the situation, saying: “I can not talk about this now. It is a really delicate situation. I’m shielded and therefore I can not talk.”

Vasco’s hopes of re-hiring the number 10 though may be unwelcomed by the player who has told friends he would prefer a move to a club from São Paulo for next season, after being angered by the behaviour of the Vasco board when they sold him earlier this year.
