Newcastle United target Douglas rescued Twente with a late equalizer as they came back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Helsingborg in the Europa League.

Douglas, 24, was the object of interest from Premier League’s Newcastle United last summer but the two clubs failed to agree on a transfer fee and the move fell through.

The Brazil-born Dutch national met Nacer Chadli’s corner with a powerful header in the closing stages of the match to complete Twente’s comeback.

Helsingborg went 2-0 up through a Nikola Djurdic double before Twente pulled a goal back through substitute Rasmus Bengtsson’s header.

Douglas then headed home the equalizing goal for Steve McClaren’s men in Sweden.

The Twente defender has been a topic of interest for Brazil as he is eligible to be called up to the Seleção but has recently obtained Dutch citizenship allowing him to play for the Netherlands if he is selected.

Twente lie third in Group L with two points from two games whilst Helsingborg remain bottom with one point.
