Manchester United defender Rafael believes his equalising goal in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Liverpool was the best he has ever scored for the club.

The young right-back curled the ball beyond goalkeeper Jose Reina in the 51st minute, to cancel out Steven Gerrard’s earlier goal.

Rafael, who has been at Old Trafford for four years, believes the timing of the goal was key and that

The 22-year-old told MUTV: “It’s definitely the best goal I’ve scored for United.

“It was a good moment to get it because it was so quick after they scored. If we hadn’t had scored then we might have got a little bit nervous so it was an important time to get the goal.”

The Seleção international also reflected on the importance of picking up all three points, despite a below-par performance, and finally winning at Anfield.

He added: “It’s a very important three points.

“It wasn’t a great performance from us but in the last five years we haven’t won here so we’re very pleased.”

Sir Alex Ferguson recently awarded Rafael a new four-year contract at Old Trafford, whereas his twin brother Fabio has been loaned out to Queens Park Rangers for the season.
