GROUP A – An early RIVALDO strike for Olympiakos wasn’t enough as they went on to lose 3-1 to Liverpool, and failed to qualify. Monaco topped the group ahead of Liverpool after their 5-0 thrashing of Deportivo La Coruna, MAICON was among the scorers.

GROUP B – A 9th minute goal from RONALDO helped Real Madrid to a 3-0 win over Roma, and qualify his team in second place behind Bayer Leverkusen who beat Dynamo Kiev 3-0. JUAN scoring the first for the Germans.

GROUP C – Ajax and Bayern Munich drew 2-2, putting MAXWELL and his team mates out. ZE ROBERTO came on at half time but failed to make any impression. Juventus also qualify after their 1-1 draw against Maccabi Tel-Aviv.

GROUP D – NILMAR HONORATO was the hero for the French side Lyon as they waltzed past a terrible Sparta Prague scoring two of the goals in their 5-0 win, ensuring first place in the group. Manchester Utd lost 3-0 to Fenerbache, but FABIO LUCIANO, ALEX and MARCO AURELIO’s team still fail to qualify.

GROUP E – Arsenal thrashed Rosenborg 5-1, without the help of the ever missing EDU, to win the group. PSV Eindhoven took second place despite losing 4-1 to Panathinaikos. LEANDRO BONFIM and EDSON only making bench in this poor performance.

GROUP F – The big guns of AC Milan topped the group. DIDA kept a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw with Celtic, again who failed to play JUNINHO. An under strength Barcelona, missing the talents of RONALDINHO who spent the game on the bench, lost 2-0 to Shakhtar Donetsk but still took second place.

GROUP G – ZE MARIA’s Inter Milan beat Anderlecht 3-0 to win the group, with Werder Bremen taking second place after beating Valencia 2-0.

GROUP H – FC Porto pulled off the surprise of the day with a 2-1 win over Chelsea. DIEGO played behind LUIS FABIANO and DERLEI, and got Porto’s first with a spectacular volley. Both teams progressed to the knock out stage, with Chelsea winning the group. Despite VAGNER LOVE’s CSKA Moscow beating Paris SG 3-1 both teams went out.
