Brazil’s quest for the ninth South American under-20 women’s football title came to a finish with a golden key. By hand, the squad coached by Jonas Urias, defeated Venezuela 1-0 (on 04/24) to claim the championship and, with it, a ticket in the FIFA U-20 World Cup, which will be held in Costa Rica in August.
After a 1-0 win against Uruguay on April 21, the team’s 9th accomplishment had already been verified. Brazil finished their record season with seven victories in seven games. Tarciane, a defender for Corinthians, was the Brazilian player with the most goals: four. Brazil also had the extraordinary achievement of not conceding a single goal during the tournament.
The South American Women’s Under-20 Tournament began on April 6th and concluded on April 24th. All of the games were held in the Chilean city of La Calera. The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) sent all 10 of its member teams to compete.
The tournament had 26 matches in total, with two groups of five teams competing in the initial round. The top two teams from each group went to the final quadrangular, where they all faced each other, and Brazil won the tournament by defeating their three opponents.
Colombia, who finished second in the tournament, also qualified for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Costa Rica from August 10 to 28.
