At PSG, Neymar is going through a period of ups and downs. He has already been accused by the fans since the French club were suddenly eliminated by Real Madrid in the current edition of the European Champions League (9/3). He joined the list of players that could quit the club, but has already returned to create fantastic games and goals.

PSG were beaten 3-0 by Monaco in their next game following the European elimination, and despite the fact that the club lead the way in Ligue 1, the supporters cursed and booed him after the final whistle, perceiving him as, maybe, the major culprit for the team’s terrible period.

The Brazilian singer complained on social media, posting a selfie of himself with his face covered and the words “in life we will have to go through terrible moments, but the trick is not to lose trust in God!” “Never give up (never give up in Portuguese),” the striker wrote.

It was also rumoured that he might leave. For some time, the player has been pursued by his previous club, Barcelona, and many of his supporters want him to go because they believe that playing for PSG does not benefit his career and pushes him farther away from the prospect of being voted FIFA’s greatest player in the world.

However, Neymar seems to be interested in focusing on the French outfit. On April 4, the footballer reacted to a critique by French journalist Daniel Riolo of RMC radio after a fantastic goal in a quiet win over Lorient (5-1). The striker “comes to training in a sad condition, on the edge of being intoxicated,” Riolo stated a few weeks ago.

After giving one of his greatest games of the season for PSG, the Brazilian ace took to social media to react to the broadcaster, writing: “I was intoxicated, so it worked…”

The message received a lot of favourable feedback and left supporters of the French club confident that the team’s big talent, with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé, can turn things around and lead the club to the French crown.

The Brazilian’s performance is not very impressive, particularly when compared to Neymar’s debut season at PSG (2017-2018). To give you an idea, in 30 matches played at the time, he scored 28 goals and provided 17 assists, averaging one goal for the French club every 60 minutes.

He won’t have much time to improve his stats, since the French Championship, PSG’s lone remaining competition, is now in its 30th round of 38. In any event, with 68 points, the club is the obvious leader in the tournament (12 more than the current second position in Olympique de Marseille).

On the 21st of May, the most significant event in French football will come to a close.

About Neymar at PSG

PSG made the announcement about Neymar on August 3, 2017. He was at Barcelona and is still the most expensive acquisition in football history, having cost the French club €222 million (about R$819 million at the time).

The ace has yet to win the European Champions League for the French club – the largest ambition with his acquisition – but he has already won the French Championship three times (2018, 2019 and 2020) and is on the verge of winning his fourth in the current campaign.
