Lionel Messi shocked the world by announcing his decision to play for Inter Miami next season. The Argentine superstar will join the MLS outfit in a free transfer once his current deal with Paris Saint-Germain expires, ruling out a long-awaited return to Barcelona.
Needless to say, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is expected to make a revolution in the league, with tickets already being sold out and Inter Miami’s social media followers increasing every minute. In his new club, Messi will meet with new Brazilian teammates.
The Brazilians who will play with Messi at Inter Miami
The Inter Miami squad for the 2023 MLS season has two Brazilians: defensive midfield Gregore and central midfield Jean Mota. Both of them are 29, and sadly, they’re also recovering from injuries. While the No. 26 suffered a fractured foot, the No. 7 is recovering from a torn lateral collateral ligament.
Jean Mota had the most outstanding moment of his career during his years as a Santos player, where he even played under Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli orders, who also managed Messi in the past.
There’s paperwork still to be taken care of, but Messi to Inter Miami looks like a done deal. Whether more world-renowned players will join him in the USA remains to be seen, but the club will probably try and build a strong supporting cast around the Argentine.
