Roberto Firmino’s last months were complicated for two reasons: calf injury and absence from the World Cup. Despite the turmoil, the number 9 scored the goal that closed the 7-0 victory over Manchester United, last Sunday, 5th, in the Premier League, and ended a draught that lasted more than three months.

He suffered the injury during the Qatar Cup break and returned to the pitch on February 13, a match in which Liverpool beat Everton 2-0. The North West Derby was precisely the sixth participation of the Brazilian striker since his return, therefore, he reached 10 goals in 27 matches this season.

On November 12 last year, the Reds beat Southampton 3-1 at Anfield for the 16th round of the Premier League. Just six minutes into the game, the Brazilian scored a beautiful header and opened the scoring; Darwin Núñez scored the other two goals, also in the opening stage.

At that point, Firmino was going through a great phase and did not hide his frustration at being left out of Tite’s squad. The situation worsened due to the long inactivity, since he lost space in the attacking trio and, now, he usually enters only in the final stretch of the matches.

The passage through Anfield should end on June 30, when the contract between the parties will be terminated. According to the English press, the player himself communicated to the club his intention to seek new airs in the coming months.
