Savinho’s sale

“I would like fans and you to understand that on our side, we will always try to make the best deal. However, it also has to match what the buyer is willing to pay. So, at that moment, no one here negotiated Savinho’s deal content with the price,” explained former Atlético-MG football director Rodrigo Caetano in a press conference this week.

“We really wanted Savinho to stay longer. It’s not about the price being discussed. The discussion is that we wanted him to stay longer. It was a moment of his ‘blossoming.’ Unfortunately, the club was going through a huge need,” added the executive, currently serving as CBF’s national teams director.

Additionally, the club may earn an extra 6 million euros (R$32 million) if Savinho meets certain goals outlined in the contract.

“When you don’t need to sell, the price automatically goes up. This applies to anyone in our domestic accounting. When you have to part with something out of necessity, the price is different. They are distinct moments. You can’t dissociate Savinho’s case from the entire context. Of course, it can be discussed separately because this kind of discussion is interesting. But for us… Anyway, in this second transfer, more resources will come into the club, and consequently, the overall negotiation will be a bit more favorable,” Caetano concluded.
