The main player of FC Petrolul in 2023/2024, midfielder Jair Tavares has accumulated excellent personal statistics. The athlete has scored seven goals and provided six assists in 33 matches, already marking this as the season with the most direct goal involvements in his career. The Brazilian now aims to surpass his personal record of number of games (35) achieved in 2021 with HJK in Finland, and in the previous season with the Romanian club. The player spoke about the matter.

“I am prepared to surpass this mark, which is my goal along with helping the club achieve great things. I am happy to play all these games and I feel good physically and mentally. I want to increasingly surpass and break my own records. That is always my goal every passing season,” he said.

Jair is the top scorer of the team this season, as well as the leading assister and the player with the most minutes on the field. The midfielder only missed one game due to squad rotation by the coach. In the Superliga (Romania’s top division), the midfielder also ranks sixth in minutes played (3125).

The team is currently competing in the play-out, a sort of second phase of the national league where teams compete for two spots in a future knockout phase for a place in the next Conference League. The team won the first match 1-0 and drew away in the second round, earning four points out of six. The player projected the upcoming matches.

“Playing in the play-out is very delicate. You have to make as few mistakes as possible and score as many points as you can. Every win or draw counts a lot to keep the team safe from relegation. But our main goal at the moment is to finish in first or second place in the play-out, because that way we can try to secure a spot in the Conference League,” he concluded.
