Thiago Silva, 28, insists that those who pull on the Canarinha are not alone in terms of the fan and media scrutiny they face and, thus, must learn to ignore the critics they will face.

With the team no longer boasting the star quality of recent years, with the exception of Neymar, the Paris St-Germain defender believes they will not win over the doubters easily.

“Everyone who works in football is as pressured as we are and so, we need to know how to deal with that,” he told a press conference ahead of Thursday’s fixture with Iraq.

“Idols and ‘phenomena’ are only born every 15 years or so. You can’t always have a Ronaldo, a Bebeto or a Romario. We need to know how to deal with these things and listen less. The less we hear, the better for us.”
