Sao Paulo Corinthians, look like they are about to complete the purchase of Argentinan striker Carlos Tevez from Boca Juniors.

In a complex transaction Corinthians said yesterday the Argentine player would be brought through the Media Sports Investments.

Through MSI Corinthians will receive approx $20 million (US) to make payment of debts and in exchange,the firm will recieve all of the television, sponsor and soccer income rights.

MSI director, Iranian Kia Joorabchian, said he will travel in the coming hours to Buenos Aires to complete the negotiations for the transfer of Tevez, for $18 million.

Joorabchian said the business is “99 percent secure” as there has already been an agreement with the player and Boca.

“I talked to him three times and he told me he wants to come. Our intention is to introduce him next week,” said the businessman who hopes to keep the player for at least two seasons.

Tevez was last years Argentine play of the year and has impressed both for his club and country drawing obvious comparisons with Maradona, both in looks and play. A number of high profile European teams have been watching Tevez for sometime so the move would appear to be a huge coup for Corinthians and the Brazilian league.

The announcement occurs after the unusal agreement signed by MSI with the Brazilian club, which divided the Corinthians fans. With some even storming the clubs headquarters on Wednesday.

The 2nd most popular club in Brazil has among its most famous followers Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and has an string of illustrious past players.
