A real Real Madrid legend, Marcelo. The defender won championships over the course of 16 seasons, elevating himself to the top of the club’s all-time list.

Every cycle must come to an end, therefore the footballer said Spain farewell and accepted a new professional challenge. Even the chance of his playing again in Brazil existed, below the radar of the Brazilian squad, as other veterans had done.

The number 12 made the decision to remain on the Old Continent even though he had the ability to play at a high level.

Marcelo closes with Olympiacos to continue in Europe

Marcelo had some downtime after Real Madrid declined to extend his contract. However, the defender signed a contract with the Greek team Olympiacos at the start of September.

The Brazilian will have the chance to demonstrate that he can still compete at the highest level in Europe during the contract’s one-season expiration. He has soured the Spanish reservation in recent months.

Marcelo wants to add another European championship to his résumé, but Olympiacos is competing in the Europa League group stage.

The signing also generated enthusiasm from the audience. At the Georgios Karaiskakis stadium in Athens, he was greeted by around 20,000 supporters.

“Almost” hit with Leicester

The Olympiacos statement was seen as a surprise in a sense. Days before, the English club Leicester was assured of the ex-Brazilian squad player’s consent by the European press.

Despite this, the “Spursito” YouTube channel was the source of the bogus news. Numerous journalists tried to find “holes” at the window’s conclusion, and international and Brazilian websites ultimately bought the report of the purported attack.

Naturally, the deal with Leicester never happened. In doing so, he joins the group of Brazilians, including Giovanni, Rivaldo, and, more recently, Rafinha, who have donned the Olympiacos jersey.

Fullback made history at Real Madrid

In his career, Marcelo only participated in two professional teams. He participated in 30 games for Fluminense between 2005 and 2006. He was acquired by Real Madrid when he was just 18 years old, when he began to write his autobiography.

He succeeded Roberto Carlos throughout the 16 seasons, took home the captain’s belt, and won 25 championships. With five Champions League championships, he is the association’s all-time leading winner.

His statistics are remarkable. He wore the Real jersey in 546 games, which places him second among non-Europeans after Karim Benzema.

By doing this, Marcelo advanced and became the most significant Brazilian in the history of the merengue squad, at least in terms of victories. Very good!

Remember Marcelo’s 25 achievements at Real:

Spanish Championship: 2006/07, 2007/08, 2011/12, 2016/17, 2019/20 and 2021/22.

King’s Cup: 2010/11 and 2013/14.

Spanish Super Cup: 2008, 2012, 2017, 2019/20 and 2021/22.

Champions League: 2013/14, 2015/16, 2016/17, 2017/18 and 2021/22.

European Super Cup: 2014, 2016 and 2017.

Club World Cup: 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Return to Brazilian football is postponed

At 34, Marcelo had a distinguished career at Real Madrid and in Europe, winning two World Cups. He would undoubtedly be a great addition to any Brazilian football squad.

The team that exposed it, Fluminense, enquired about the player. He was informed that Marcelo was still planning to remain in Europe, which ultimately occurred. The childhood team Botafogo was also mentioned.

The team may participate in the Brazilian Championship in the second half of 2023 since the deal with Olympiacos is just for one year. But it will depend on how well he does in Greece and if he wants to go back.

Olympiacos’ campaign in the Europa League got off to a bad start as they lost to Nantes away from home. Now that Marcelo has arrived, the squad may improve and, who knows, dream of winning national and international championships.
