Sport came with a plan to surprise in São Januário, but Vasco were unfazed and started up the rhythm of their game soon later. In the first four minutes, Cano got a shot deflected off Adryelson and went close.

Soon afterwards, Yago Pikachu almost deflected a shot to the goal of Pernambuco, but goalkeeper Mailson sent the shot to the corner.

The goal eventually came through a fast break, with Cruz-Maltino opening the scoring.

Benitez gave a teasing cross into the middle of the area finding Fellipe Bastos, who put the ball at the back of the net.

In the 29th minute, midfielder Fellipe Bastos hit the post, and three minutes later, with a fantastic free kick strike, he extended Vasco’s advantage.

In the second half, Vasco continued to create the best chances of the game with Fellipe Bastos being the protagonist once more. The midfielder made a great chance from distance but his efforts was parried away by Mailson to the corner.

In the final minutes, the away team still in search for their first goal of the game had a chance through a quick break, but the team efforts were without result. Vasco kept the ball, to guarantee the first win in their debut season.
