São Paulo record comeback win and move within touching distance of the Brasileirão leadership
Brenner, in a controversial move and Igor Gomes scored for Tricolor after Fernandão opened up the scoring for the emeralds. Goalkeeper Tadeu, with his great abilities was the highlight of the match with a dominant performance on the evening.
The match started with great intensity between both teams.
São Paulo dominated play and created series of chances but failed to capitalize.
After just seven minutes, Igor Gomes almost drew first blood in the game with a dangerous shot but goalkeeper Tadeu had something else in mind preventing his efforts.
In the 19th minute, the visiting team following a counter attacking situation stormed the home side’s area. Vinícius, one on one with Volpi, placed the ball for Fernandão who scored and put his side in the lead.
The Emerald celebration was short lived as the home side drew level six minutes later. Brenner scored at close range with a header following a cross from Juanfran on the right. Tadeu got a hand on the ball, but the goal was awarded due to it already closing the line.
São Paulo tried to repeat the intensity of their game toward the end of the first half in the second period but Tadeu remained the man preventing every bit of the chances to take the lead.
Brenner threaten with a shot but his effort hit the posts. Goiás also had the opportunity to take the lead from Fernandão’s header but his effort was well saved by Tiago Volpi.
São Paulo’s constant pressure paid off in the 79th minute when Igor Gomes deflected an effort from the edge of the area and turned the game over to his side advantage. The win takes São Paulo much closer to the top of the table.
