O Red Bull Bragantino estreou neste domingo (9) ao empatar com o Santos por 1 a 1, fora de casa, na Vila Belmiro, em partida válida pela primeira rodada do Campeonato Brasileiro.

In the first match under coach Cuca, Santos were close to securing a victory but Red Bull Bragantino sought a draw in the second half and it eventually played out to a 1-1 score-line this Sunday in Vila Belmiro. The fixture marked the debut of the two teams in the Brazilian Championship. Santos missed a penalty in the first half, with Carlos Sánchez, but he counted on Marinho’s already famous “random missile”, which opened the scoring. In the end, however, Bragantino managed to force a draw with Claudinho.

The game did bring its own fair share of controversy. For the equalizing goal by Red Bull Bragantino, the Santos players complained about the refereeing of Ricardo Marques Ribeiro, who would not have allowed a replacement of Peixe before the rival’s dead ball. In the end, Luan Peres connected with the ball and Claudinho scored. Commentator Sandro Meira Ricci said there was nothing unusual about the move and that was it.

For the first time in five games, Santos had no players sent off and it was evident in their performance on the pitch.

For Bragantino, they were back in the elite of Brazilian football after 22 years.

The team from the interior of São Paulo showed a good game volume, worthy of the best team in the first phase of Paulistão.

Santos now find themselves seventh in the Serie A after that result and will be looking forward to their next outing to find a victory. Pexie will face Internacional in their second game on Thursday. Bragantino will face Botafogo in their next game.
