Verdão drew 0-0 with Guaraní this Wednesday in Asunción and only needs one point in the next two games to advance in the competition.

The duel played at Defensores Del Chaco was of little chance, very physical and with less technique than Vanderlei Luxemburgo’s team could offer. However, it was just enough to maintain their unbeaten record in Libertadores and take another step towards the vacancy.

The game was balanced as expected, and Palmeiras had difficulties in the transition between midfield and attack.

Luiz Adriano barely caught the ball, even trying to get more out of the area,

and the best chances came in aerial balls and also in a long shot from Gabriel Menino which Servio spread wide.

The best chances were from the home team and involved a well-crafted play by the right side that ended in submission by Morel and a great save by Weverton. Later on, it was via a cross shot by Cecilio Domínguez that passed close. Afterwards, Guaraní also complained about a penalty on Felipe Melo’s touch which was ignored by Argentine referee Nestor Pitana.

The draw takes Palmeiras to 10 points, in the lead of Group B. Guaraní goes to seven, in second place. Verdão opened six points for Bolívar, who has four, and also has an advantage in the goal difference (5 of Brazilians, -1 of Bolivians)

Palmeiras will return to the field next Sunday to face Flamengo at Allianz Parque for the 12th round of the Brazilian Championship. The Rio club, however, is trying to postpone the match due to the cases of Covid-19 in its squad.
