Palmeiras continue their unbeaten run with 2-0 win over rivals Corinthians
Luiz Adriano, from the penalty spot, and Gabriel Veron scored Verdão goals. It was a night to forget for Timao as they finished the game with only nine men. Fagner was sent off in the first half while Danilo Avelar was shown his marching orders five minutes from time.
Palmeiras started as the better side and got two early chances within the first ten minutes. The first came via a shot from Zé Rafael, saved by Cássio. The second came via Gabriel Menino’s shot that went wide of the goal.
Palmeiras came knocking with chance after chance but Cassio kept his side in the game with some crucial saves to go with.
It seemed like the first half was headed for a stalemate until somewhere around the 40th minute.
Wesley took a shot after a pass from Luiz Adriano. In the rebound of the shot from Cássio, Lucas Lima hit the ball and Fagner used his hand to prevent it from going in. He got a red card immediately. Penalty for Palmeiras too and Luiz Adriano opened the scoring.
Palmeiras would get their second in the 65th minute. Lucas Lima took advantage of Lucas Piton’s failure, started on the counterattack, found Willian, who gave Gabriel Veron a good assist to grab another goal. It got worse for Corinthians after Danilo Avelar took the second yellow card and was sent off in the 85th minute.
With the victory, Palmeiras remains the only team undefeated in the Brasileirão. Now with 16 points, Verdão lie in fourth place but still have a game in hand compared to others. Corinthians, in turn, parks at nine points in 13th position but only one point above the relegation zone.
