The Uruguay international joins on a one-year contract with the option to extend for a further year.

Cavani is a serial goalscorer who has scored 341 goals at club level since moving to Europe 13 years ago. The 33-year-old is PSG"s all-time leading goalscorer who won six Ligue 1 titles with the French Champions.

Soon after signing on the dotted line, Cavani said:

"Manchester United is one of the greatest clubs in the world, so it is a real honour to be here. I"ve worked really hard during the time off and I feel eager to compete and represent this incredible club.

"I have played in front of some of the most passionate supporters in football during my career and I know that it will be the same in Manchester. I cannot wait to experience the Old Trafford atmosphere, when it is safe for the fans to return.

"I look forward to continuing to write my little story inside the book of football and I know that"s why my focus has to remain the same as always – work, work, work. I have had a conversation with the manager and this has increased my desire to wear this beautiful shirt."

The veteran frontman brings vast experience and pedigree to a relatively young United squad, with his incredible professionalism and hunger sure to rub off on some of United"s youngsters.

Mason Greenwood, in particular, would hugely benefit from observing Cavani"s energy and world class goal scoring abilities from close quarters. As it is hoped the 19-year-old would develop into a similarly ruthless goalscorer.

Cavani had interest from a host of clubs across Europe including Atletico Madrid and Benfica. There was interest from South America as well with Gremio showing interest.

At the end, none of those clubs could afford his wages and he signs for Manchester United.
