Lima bags brace as Ceará thrash Goiás with convincing 4-0 score-line
Goiás were served a large slice of humble pie on Thursday night as Ceará thrashed the home side 4-0.
Two second half goals from Vinicius with a man of the match performance and a goal each for Lima and Fernando Sobral in the first half was enough to mount more pressure on the home side who are without a win in three league matches.
Ceará started the game in a timid and discreet manner, with Goiás getting the first dose of opportunities to score.
Cabral did open the scoring for Goiás with a stunning strike but it was ruled out by VAR due to handball.
The visitors soon took charge of the game and it wasn’t long until they broke the deadlock. Lima opened up the scoring in the 18th minute after his shot was slightly deflected in by an opponent.
Fernando Sobral then doubled Vozão’s lead right before the break through a header from another Vinicius assist.
Goiás returned after the break a better team. They got everything right, had more of the ball, and were able to create better chances except the final finish in front of goal. However, in the 52nd minute, Ceará were gifted a penalty after Bomfim de Jesus was shoved in the box.
Vinicius converted from the spot kick and scored the third goal before grabbing his second of the night moments later after a sweet pass from Lima in the 63rd minute.
Ceará goes up two positions, sitting in 10th place after the win and three points above Athletico-PR in 12th place with 39 points. On the other hand, Goiás falls to 19th place, six points further away from safety in the relegation battle.
Both teams return to action on Sunday, with Ceará hosting Palmeiras at home and Goiás visiting Santos later that day.
