Keno hatrick secures comeback win for Atlético Mineiro
The result saw Galo take first place in the Brazilian Serie A, replacing Internacional at the top.
Atlético-GO opened the scoring with Oliveira in the 21st minute and the first half ended that way.
Keno, from a penalty spot, drew level in the 53rd minute and Gustavo Ferrereis put the Dragon ahead again two minutes after. However, with a goal from Nathan and two more from Keno, the great performer of the night, the Rooster left the field with the triumph.
Gilvan still tried to reduce the deficit but it proved to be inconsequential.
Jorge Sampaoli made two changes to improve Galo around the break and one of them had a significant effect. Only just recovering from injury, Nathan changed the dynamics of the team and invigorated a great deal of hostile to Atlético-MG.
In all, it was a massive victory for Jorge Sampaoli’s side and they now find themselves top of the table. A massive challenge awaits Galo to see just how long they can maintain their spot at the top of the log.
Atlético-MG gets to 21 points and overtakes Internacional who follow closely behind on 20 points. Although, Galo are with a game in hand compared to Inter. For their next outing, Galo will travel to Mineirão and take on Grêmio. Atletico-GO, who had not lost in four games, is in twelfth spot with 12 points.
Dragão will return to the field for Serie A on Sunday against Botafogo, again in Goiânia. Previously, next Thursday, the team from Goiás will play against Fluminense for the Copa do Brasil.
