Internacional were widely expected to win and did just that. Colorado took all three points against Novo Hamburgo on Sunday night, courtesy of a 1-0 victory. The game was valid for the fifth round of Gaucho Championship.

The victory saw Inter move to the top of the competition, although level on points (10) with Caxias and São Luiz. Only a superior goal difference puts them ahead at the moment.

Marcos Guilherme scored the only goal of the game in the 62nd minute and it was enough to clinch the win. Novo Hamburgo remain in bottom place and are still in search of their first win in the competition.

Last time out, Inter boss Miguel Ángel Ramírez was not allowed to stay on the sidelines but it was a different story this time. The 36-year-old officially took charge of an Inter game for the first time where he was on the sidelines.

Ramírez was active on the sidelines and was occasionally seen dishing out instructions to his players and instructing them on what to do. At one point, he was critical of Marcos Guilherme but it didn’t matter at the end of the day, with the forward scoring the crucial goal that gave Inter the win.

Speaking after the game, goal-scorer Marcos Guilherme said:

“An important victory for the group, a difficult game, a difficult pitch. I am happy for the victory. We have been working for the whole week trying to understand the coach’s ideas, it is a lot of movement. I believe that we have already played better than in the previous game.”

Both teams will return to the pitch on Wednesday for the sixth round of the competition. For their next clash in the Gaucho, Novo Hamburgo will take on Brasil de Pelotas at Estádio do Vale while Inter take on Caxias at home.
