The match between Grêmio and São Paulo ended in a goalless draw on Wednesday night. However, Gaucho secured qualification into the finals via a 1-0 aggregate score, making it their ninth Copa do Brasil final.

It was a frustrating evening for São Paulo, who are yet to win the competition in their history.

They were hoping to enter their second ever Copa do Brasil final but it wasn’t their day.

Grêmio started the game being the better side and managed to control São Paulo but failed to create clear chances to score. Despite seeing more of the early possession, São Paulo were slow in moving the ball around.

They had trouble in defence some couple of times, first with Kannemann’s header and then via an effort from Victor Ferraz that went over the goal.

São Paulo started to get control of the game, and started to create chances soon enough. Gabriel Sara came close to scoring in the 29th minute after receiving a great ball from Tchê Tchê but fluffed his lines. Grêmio also got a chance of their own from outside the goal area through an effort from Pepê.

After the break, the game continued as the first period, which forced Fernando Diniz to replace Vitor Bueno and Toró for Luan and Leo to try and change the outcome of the game. The substitution had no effect in the match and both sides still struggled for a spark in front of goal.

São Paulo tried all they could to get back into the game, but all their efforts were futile and they fell out of the competition on aggregate after going goalless.

Grêmio will face Palmeiras in their ninth Copa do Brasil final, winning five out of their previous eight and would be hoping to lift their sixth. The decisive games will be on the 3rd and 10th of February, 2021.
