Grêmio draw with Brasiliense and secure a round of 16 spot in the Copa do Brasil

After a 0-0 draw in the second leg against Brasiliense at the Estádio Boca do Jacaré on Thursday, Grêmio qualified for the Copa do Brasil round of 16.

Tricolor won 2-0 at home in the Arena in the first leg, advancing to the next round on an aggregate victory.

Due to the fact that they were evenly matched throughout the game, both teams had a lengthy day, with Zotti collecting a second yellow card and getting sent off in the second half.

Grêmio barely threatened to attack the opponent in the first 45 minutes of the match after winning the first leg 2-0. They had more time on the ball and a better ball possession (60%) but only two shots on goal.

Brasiliense relied on their own counterattacks, causing problems for their opponents with quick movement. They had seven shots on goal but were unable to find the back of the net with any of them.

Zé Love attempted to score a goal from a free kick in extra time of the first half, but the ball deflected off Kannemann, allowing Paulo Victor to retrieve the ball and put it out of danger.

Brasiliense tried to put pressure on Tricolor early in the second half, knowing that they needed more than two goals to make the playoffs. Sandy and Luquinhas were both unsuccessful in their attempts to upset the Grêmio defence.

Zotti then added to the hosts’ misery by getting sent off after getting two yellow cards in under a minute.

With a man advantage, Grêmio came close to putting the game out of reach, but Ferreira’s shot struck the crossbar. The game concluded in a goalless draw, giving the visitors the upper hand in advancing to the next round.

In the second round of the Série D, Brasiliense will face Porto Velho at the Aluizio Ferreira stadium. At the Arena, Grêmio will face Athletico-PR in the third round of the Brazilian Championship.
