Gerson on the verge of completing a move to Marseille
Gerson is now edging closer to joining French side, Olympique Marseille. Monday was a day set for negotiations to be tweaked, and the French club have stepped up negotiations to meet the needs of the players and Flamengo.
Proposals with new values and requirements were introduced to the club and the player, and a decision is expected soon.
Representatives from the French club met with Marco, the midfielder’s father, and agreed to extend the tax-free deal to five years, which will benefit all parties including Flamengo. Fla approved the deal, and were pleased with the return of Olympique.
The figures for the sales are still being kept under wraps, but they are estimated to be about 25 million euros for the purchase and another 5 million euros in variables.
The clauses are contingent on Gerson’s individual success as well as Olympique’s collective performance, which includes qualifying for European and related competitions.
The cause of Gerson’s potential selling in Europe is Flamengo’s greatest asset for leveraging the negotiation’s values. The Rio club can hold more than 20% of the midfielder’s bargaining worth if he is priced while going through Marseille.
The clubs are unconcerned about Gerson’s comments to close friends that he will not be persuaded of the deal, since they understand that “it is part of the procedure.”
According to sources close to both Flamengo and Olympique, this is a non-transactional problem that Gerson and his father, Marco, must address. The corporation went so far as to make a statement in the CBF code of ethics.
The current situation suggests that Flamengo, Olympique, and Gerson will reach an agreement soon. All things being equal, a move for Gerson could now be completed.
