The game should have held at Maracanã but had to take place at São Januário with the iconic Maracanã currently being used by Comebol for commitments and the upcoming Copa Libertadores final.

Fluminense recorded a 2-0 win against Botafogo and as they seek to move further up in the Brazilian Championship.

Lucca grabbed a goal in the 67th minute and Wellington Silva who converted a stoppage time penalty to seal the win for Flu.

In general, the game was played at low quality but Fluminense were slightly the better side and deserved the victory for sure.

The first half saw a poor outing from both sides with lots of incomplete and misplaced passes. The only real chance at both ends was a header from Lucca that skimmed just wide off the post.

In the second half, Fluminense came out much better and finally got the opening goal of the game.

Lucca was on par to fire home after a deflection from a Luiz Henrique cross. In extra time, the game was put beyond any doubt when Botafogo goalkeeper Cavalieri committed a foul in the box and a penalty was given. Wellington Silva made no mistake from the spot and scored the resulting penalty.

Asides taking home the three points, the victory in São Januário also saw Fluminense crowned winners of the Gerson and Didi Cup, a trophy that consists of two friendlies and two games in the Brasilerao. Tricolor won twice and drew their other two games.

Fluminense, seventh place on the log with 50 points, will take on Goiás this coming Sunday for their next outing. Botafogo remain bottom of the table and have lost their last six games. They will take on Palmeiras next Tuesday.
