The midfielder’s contract was valid until December 2020 and has now been extended for another season. It will keep him at the club until he’s 40 years old. 

Flu explained that the upset in the football calendar due to the global pandemic made the extension for the forward a real priority. 

Nene expressed his joy continue with the club after signing the contract and promised to keep giving his best on the pitch. 

A great joy. Since before the pandemic, I said that I was very happy here and that my intention was to continue this journey. I hope we can continue great things this year. I am very happy and I will continue to give my best, my life on the pitch for that shirt.” the Brazilian said as quoted by Fluminense’s website. 

Asides Fred, Fluminense has 11 other players whose contracts are to expire at the end of December 2020 as well. In addition to the veteran forward, Matheus Ferraz and Wellington Silva also got contract renewals of their own. Dodi and Luccas Claro are also names on the club’s agenda for the extension of the bond. Both player’s agent are already in advanced stages of negotiations with the club.

Nene might be 39 but continues to be about the very best on the pitch for Flu. 

He is team’s top scorer this year with 15 goals in 24 games so far. The veteran forward is also Brazil’s top scorer in the season so far, tied with Tiago Orobó at six goals. 

Since 2019, Fred has made 53 appearances for Fluminense and scored 18 goals in that timeframe.
