Fluminense defeat Santos and move into the Brasileirão top four

The Fish dropped down to sixth. Luccas ClaroNino and Marcos Paulo scored for the home team while Marinho scored the only goal for the away side and paid homage to Pelé’s 80th birthday. 

In the first half, Fluminense got control of Santos by closing spaces on the sides. The team from Rio had Soteldo and Marinho under their control. The home side managed to put pressure on the opposing team because from the start they adopted early marking under pressure.  

In the 29th minute, the home side got their chance to draw first blood through a set piece with Luccas Claro.

 Santos did not create many chances in the game. 

In the second half, despite the changes made by CucaSantos failed to produce more offensive play while Fluminense maintained their stance and continue strive going forward. 

 11 minutes in the second half, Nino put his side in the lead with a brilliant header. The home side later focused more on counter attacks after the second, adding to their goal tally through Marcos Paulo with a wonderful pass from Ganso. The match ended in a 3-1 score line. 

Dodi, from Fluminense, was chosen for an interview and mentioned he was happy with the victory. Asked about the renovation, he adopted a faint tone. He said: “I am very happy here”. 

Fluminense moves to fourth place and goes head on and faces Fortaleza on Saturday at Castelão. Santos stays in sixth and will host  Bahia at Vila Belmiro.
