The victory was Fluminense’s first in the Brasileirão.  It was also their first victory in all official games since the restart of football. Before yesterday, Flu had won just one friendly and that was against Botafogo.

The first half started at a slow pace, but little by little, Inter took control and tried to propose the game against Fluminense.

Inter had a couple of chances to score but Fluminense goalkeeper Muriel made some saves to keep the scores level.

The breakthrough finally came in the 28th minute through Guerrero. He took advantage of a corner kick and fired home through a small gap leaving no chance for Muriel. Flu was more aggressive after conceding and leveled the scoring only nine minutes later. In the 37th minute, Marcos Paulo lifted the ball in the area. Víctor Cuesta failed and brought down Evanílson. Nenê casually converted the resulting penalty with ease.

Fluminense came back in the second half a better side and looked to show their intent to win early on. Micheal Araujo scored a goal for Flu that was eventually nullified by VAR. Once again, VAR came into play again when Zé Gabriel’s arm appeared to handle the ball in the box. Nenê stepped up once again to score from the spot. It was enough to seal victory for Fluminense.

With the victory, Fluminense moves up six positions in the table and now find themselves in eighth place with four points. Inter moved a spot below and are currently third with six points.

Fluminense will return to the pitch on Wednesday when they face Bragantino in the 4th round of the Brasileirão. Inter hosts Atlético-GO in Beira-Rio also on Wednesday, but in an earlier clash.
