Ceará edged past Flamengo in a 2-0 victory away from home on Sunday. Vinicius opened up the scoring in the first half and Ramos da Fonseca doubling their tally late in the second half.

Flamengo dominated in many aspects of the game. They had more ball possession, more shots on goal, more dangerous attacks, but lacked in the all-important goal scoring department.

It didn’t take long for the visitors to draw first blood in the first half. Vinicius connected to Chu L’s cross in the box to draw first blood in the 13th minute.

Vinicius had a decent game and was the talking point in the victory against Flamengo. He had couple of other chances in the first half to extend his team’s advantage but was unlucky in front of goal.

Fla had a couple of opportunities to equalize and get the winner in the game but the heroics of Ceará’s goal keeper Oliveira and the team being unlucky in front of goal meant it was not their day.

After the break, the visitors sat deeper in defence and were happy to depend on counter attacks. The home side couldn’t operate normally due to the compact defence system played by the away side. They became vulnerable to the visitors advances in the fast break, and eventually conceded their second goal late in the second half right before the final whistle.

Vinicius was once again the orchestrator of the second goal, as he tipped Ramos da Fonseca who volleyed his effort past Cesar to make it 2-nil.

With the consecutive loss, Flamengo failed to capitalise and go within one point in the title race. They sit in fourth place and seven points off leaders São Paulo. They go against Goiás on Monday looking to get back to winning ways.

Ceará sit in 9th place and will go against Bragantino next Sunday with hopes of keeping their momentum.
