Filipe Luis opened the scoring early in the first half as early as the eight minuteThe full-back, after header from Arrascaeta and Muriel’s rebound was at the right place to slot in for a finish.

The game started lively and the goal only made it even more so.

Both sides continued to push for goals still with lots of great chances missed at both ends.

After lots of pressure from both sides, it was Flamengo who got another.  Gabriel Barbosa added another for Flamengo towards the end of the half. In similar fashion to Fla’s first goal, the striker fired home after a free kick from Arrascaeta and another rebound by the goalkeeper.

Flamengo started the second half with ease and only had to be calm to maintain their lead. Fluminense pushed and pushed to start a comeback but it was not to be their day. Digão got one in the additional time of second half but it only turned out to be a consolation goal. The win was the fourth successive win for Fla in the Brazilian Championship.

With the victory, Flamengo reaches 17 points and takes the vice-leadership of the Brasileirão alongside Internacional and Sao Paulo. Although, Fla can still be overtaken by Vasco who plays later on Thursday.

Next Sunday, Fla will go to Castelão to face Ceará in a game valid for the tenth round of the competition.

Fluminense, on the other hand, with the defeat, follows with 11 points and currently lies in ninth place. The club’s next outing is a tough trip to Corinthians on Sunday at Maracanã.
