The latest news making the rounds is that Diego Costa is close to joining Palmeiras.

The former Chelsea striker is currently a free agent after deciding to terminate his contract with Atletico six months earlier. He is now being linked with a move to his native Brazil. Such a move will see the 32-year-old play professional football in Brazil for the first time in his career.

Costa has been a Verdão supporter since he was a child and such a move would make sense given his quality and vast experience in top leagues over the past decade.

On Friday, Sky Sports claimed Palmeiras were willing to offer the Spaniard a two-year-deal, worth £2.6m a year with the exclusion of tax.

The report also claimed that the striker had also been in contact with clubs from Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and England as well. It is even reported that a Premier League side believed to be Wolves, already offered Costa a contract until the end of the current season. However, the former Chelsea man turned down that deal.

Taking a closer look at this transfer ‘rumor’, Costa to Palmeiras only has a very slim chance of happening. This is according to reports from Brazil.

Verdão might have the financial power to sign the forward but their transfer policy has changed from players with such profiles. Palmeiras will rather be on the lookout for ‘bargain’ signings.

However, it does not mean a move to Brazilian football is completely out of the cards for Costa. Just recently, a player with a similar profile in Hulk joined Atletico-MG under similar circumstances.

Palmeiras might do well with the experience and quality that Costa brings but the Spaniard is apparently out of their plans as things stand. We can never completely say though as things could change within a few weeks.
