Corinthians stun Brasileirão leaders Internacional with 1-0 victory at Neo Química Arena
The only goal of the game came from Matheus Davó, a surprise inclusion in the starting lineup. Timão played a safe game defending well, while Colorado played a game with lots of intensity but had few chances created.
The win against Inter keeps Corinthians unbeaten against the Rio Grande do Sul team in Itaquera, making it four wins and three draws. After the defeat, Inter end their seven game unbeaten run in the competition.
In the first half, Inter had the first chance to go up after just 20 seconds into the game.
Edenílson got the ball directly in the penalty area but sent his shot wide out of Cássio’s goal.
Five minutes later, Corinthians responded as Otero tried a dangerous shot from outside the area but sent his volley out of Marcelo Lomba‘s reach.
Minutes later, Colorado had another opportunity to strike first when Marcos Guilherme received a great ball from the right but hit his shot over the goal.
In the 33rd minute, Timão finally got their breakthrough. Cazares received a good pass on the right and placed a cross in the path of Davó to score. Corinthians ended the first half leading 1-0.
Inter started the second half with more intensity, even had a chance to level the score in the very first minute but wasted the opportunity.
The clearest chance of the final half came in the 65th minute when Galhardo headed his effort wide following a cross from Uendel.
Timão scored a second goal but it was ruled out by the referee for impediment before Thiago Galhardo was sent off for a bad foul on Otero at the end of extra time.
