Goiás and Corinthians made quite a lot of changes to their game and both tried to dictate play with more possession of the ball. The home team started better, finding spaces in the middle and creating good goal scoring chances. 

Corinthians took the lead from a shot deflected off Fábio Sanchez into his goal.

After the lead, Goiás tried to have a reaction of their own but their effort was kept at bay by Cássio with two great saves. 

In the second half, both teams made substitutions, Goiás brought in Miguel Figueira and Ignacio Jara for more offensive prowess, while Timão, in return, replaced Camacho with Gabriel. 

Esmeraldino did better in the second half with changes made by coach Thiago Larghi. They pushed hard for an equalizer and they got their reward in the 65th minute, with the goal coming from Vinícius. 

In the end, Corinthians‘constant persistance for a winner paid off late on in the second half, with a headed goal from Avelar following Otero"s corner. 

Avelar once again showed his worth for Corinthians once more and carries on his reputation of scoring crucial goals for the club since his arrival. 

The victory took Timão out of the bottom of the standings as they jumped up to ninth place and now boast a tally of eight pointsGoiás with yet another loss remain at four points and find themselves rooted to the bottom of the table alongside Sport Recife. 

Goiás will face Sport next Sunday in Ilha do Retiro. Corinthians return for their next outing a day earlier when they host Botafogo in Itaquera.
