The decision looked like it was coming a long time given Timão’s recent poor performances on the pitch. Their most recent game was perhaps the final nail in the coffin for the 40-year-old.

The announcement came a day after a 2-0 home loss to Palmeiras, a result that left Corinthians 13th in the 20-team standings with just two wins from eight matches.

“Corinthians thank [Tiago] for the services provided … and wish him success in the next phase of his career,”

the club said in a brief statement late on Friday.

Nunes, who resigned from Athletico Parananense to take charge of Corinthians last November, led the Sao Paulo-based outfit to 10 wins10 draws and eight defeats.

Club under-20 coach Dyego Coelho will manage the first team on an interim basis, starting with a clash against Fluminense at Rio’s Maracana stadium on Sunday, the statement said.

Corinthians are already falling off the pack and have it all to do to get their season back on track. On and off the pitch, Timão have struggled so far and the incoming coach has a lot of work to do to sort the current issues.

Also, it appeared the Corinthian’s players were no longer in support of the coach who kept on changing lineups with every game and left no room for stability. In 26 games, he only repeated the lineup on seven occasions. In the idea of the squad, the constant rotation takes away the confidence of the players on the field.

Next in line would be the club’s search for a new manager. However, they must first face Fluminense on Sunday.
