Corinthians claimed a dominant 2-0 victory at Nilton Santos on Sunday afternoon. Based on current form, Corinthians came in as favorites to win the game and they didn’t disappoint on that end.

With proper distribution of the ball and effectiveness in front of goal, Timão were clearly the better side and claimed the victory via goals from Cazares and Mateus Vital. Cazares broke the deadlock in the 34th minute of the first half while Vital who came on as a 70th minute substitute put the icing on the cake with a goal in the final minute of the game,

With the result, Vagner Mancini’s team clinched their third successive victory and are now unbeaten in their last six league games.

The result sees Botafogo continue to struggle with only a win in their last five games.

The victory was also significant for Timão. It was the first time that Corinthians edged out Botafogo at Nilton Santos. Both teams had previously met eight times at the venue and Botafogo came out on top five times with the other three ending in stalemates.

Botafogo remains with 23 points and at a lowly position of 19th place. They will have nine days to prepare for their next outing against Athletico-PR on January 6. The game will also be at the Nilton Santos stadium.

Corinthians reached 39 points and are up to ninth place, level on points with Santos in 8th position.  Timão have a long rest before they take on Fluminense next on January 13 at Neo Química Arena.
