With Bahia needing to win by three goals to lift the title, it was no surprise that they came out all guns blazing from the start of the game with offensive attacks. However, Ceará were equal to the task and neutralized all their attacks. After all, they have conceded only two goals since the start of the competition and their defensive strength was evident once again. Ceará were happy to sit back and counter Bahia through set-pieces. Bahia resorted to taking shots from distance and their best chance came from a short through Flávio but Fernando Prass was on hand to make  a good save and keep the scores level.

The first half ended level and the second half started the same way. Bahia continued with an offensive game-plan but Ceará kept them at bay and went on to score in the 61st minute. Leandro Carvalho pulled back and passed to Bruno Pacheco, who invaded the area and rolled over to Cléber who made no mistake and scored an easy goal.

The victory means it is the second Nordestão triumph for Ceará. In 2015, when they were champion for the first time, Vozão also beat Bahia in the final. As in the 2020 edition, Ceará won both matches in the final five years ago.
