Bahia beat Corinthians 2-1 at home on Thursday night. Goals from Gilberto and Ramírez in the first half guaranteed the home side the victory while Gabriel scored what was a consolation goal for the away side in the second half.

Corinthians had a few chances to open up the scoring early on in the first half. Mosquito and Douglas tested Bahia goalkeeper Schuck Friedrich on multiple occasions early on. It was Bahia who would go on to open the scoring in the 31st minute.

Following a free kick from Rossi, Gilberto deflected in Ronaldo’s effort with a header to draw first blood Corinthians did make a response minutes later through a header from Araos via a corner kick. However, VAR ruled out his goal for offside.

Bahia pulled a counter-attack right at the stroke of half time and doubled their advantage going into the break. Juan Ramirez scored a brilliant solo goal as he got past four defenders to make the score line 2-0, following an assist from Andrade Thiago.

In the second period, Corinthians continued to dominate possession but were unable to find the cutting edge in the final third. Bahia could have easily scored more but for goalkeeper Cassio who made some great saves to keep his side in the game.

Gabriel managed to pull one back for Timão in the 71st minute after a great play from Gabriel Pereira to give Corinthians some hope.

Timão intensified their game towards the end of the match to get their equalizer but Bahia goalkeeper Schuck Friedrich also made some saves to see his side hold on to their lead and ultimately the win after 90 minutes.

Bahia returns to the field to face Vasco on Sunday, while Corinthians’ next game will be against Ceará on the 3rd of next month, due to their postponed game against Santos.
