Atlético-MG outclass Gremio and continue their stay at the top of the Brasileirao

Atlético-MG striker Keno was the star of the day as his hattrick secured all three points in his side’s 3-1 victory over Grêmio on Saturday night, in Mineirão.

Now, the Miners have a three-point advantage over Inter, who are in second place after drawing against São Paulo. 

Atlético-MG dominated the game early on in the first half. As leaders of the Brasileirão, they showed the quality and created a lot and applied pressure with great intensity against their opponent Grêmio, who couldn’t get out of Sampaoli’s team.  

Keno opened the scoring after he dribbled pass the defence and shot at goal in the 11th minute.  

The t of goal was the only major event of the first half. 

In the second half, the home team didn’t take time to extend their lead. At five minutes in the second period, Keno scored his second to take his team 2-0 up. Grêmio reacted four minutes later with a goal scored by Isaque. In the 66th minute, goalkeeper Everson made a direct pass to Keno, who fired and made it 3-0. It was also his third of the night and sees him get closer to top scorer Galhardo. 

Towards the end of the game, the tricolor created less and decided to hold on to their lead, leaving no space for their opponent. 

Galo will not be in action for a week before they face Vasco for the 13th round. The match will be played in Mineirão, next Sunday. Grêmio’s game will be against another Gre-Nal on Saturday at the Arena. Before that, they host the Universidad Católica on Tuesday, for Libertadores. 

Atlético extends the advantage at the top of the championship with 24 points, three points away from Inter, in second place. Grêmio parks at 13 points in 13th position.
