Brazil boss Tite and senior midfielder Casemiro have sought to play down expectations with 19 year old winger Vinicius Junior after the player became the first player born in the 21 st century to play for Brazil.

Vinicius came on as a substitute for the final 23 minutes of the Selecao’s 1-0 defeat to Peru in Miami. Tite appealed for calm with the teenager.

“Calm down with Vinicius. He came in to try to attack and give us depth. He needs space to have the ball. But he will mature, he’s a boy and he will mature.”

His teammate at Real Madrid Casemiro echoed the sentiments of the manager and appealed for the hype to tone down.

“He is a great player and he has shown that to the whole world. He is 19 and playing for Brazil and Real Madrid, that’s not normal.

“But he’s still a boy, we don’t need to put pressure on him. But we can be calm with him, two years ago he was playing for Flamengo’s U-20s.”
