Brazil captain Dani Alves was delighted to see Neymar back in the Brazil side and scoring, after the PSG forward’s equaliser in the 2-2 draw with Colombia in Miami on Friday.

It was Neymar’s first game for Brazil since the Copa America, which he missed through injury. But he played very well against Colombia, with Alves setting up his goal.

“It’s a joy to have Ney playing and the Selecao is always better when he is playing well and enjoying his football.

“People criticise him but his focus is very high and he plays at a very high level. He does what he knows best, which is to play football and we are here to help him.”

Alves said that Colombia were a tough opponent, but, on balance, he felt his side just about deserved to win.

“It was a difficult game but I think we had slightly more chances than they did. Friendlies don’t exist when you play for Brazil, every game is a battle.”
