Brazil winger Everton says he feels ‘empowered’ in the Seleção side after becoming the breakout star of this year’s Copa América.

Brazil sealed the title in the Maracanã with a 3-1 victory over Peru in the final with Everton opening the scoring in the first half.

The goal means he shares the Golden Boot award with Peru striker Paolo Guerrero and Everton says he was thankful to be selected for the final after a below par display in the semis.

“I just have to thank God and my family right now. I’ve been empowered all the time. In the last game, I was substituted and I was very annoyed with my performance.

“I put it in my head that I would have to sacrifice myself, regardless of the goal. I had to sweat, give blood to my teammates. We would like to congratulate our team for the great match.”
