After a long meeting from 6 pm to around midnight at a hotel in Florianópolis on Monday, Atlético Mineiro reached a deal to sign Figueirense’s young striker Clayton.
Atlético Mineiro president Daniel Nepomuceno and director of football Eduardo Maluf travelled to Florianópolis to negotiate directly with Figueirense and the representatives of the 20-year-old. According to the information from José Koltermann of Rádio Guarujá in Florianópolis, some players that are not being used by Atlético coach Diego Aguirre can be transferred to the Santa Catarina club. More details about the negotiations should be disclosed on Tuesday. Atlético Mineiro would pay €3.5 million for a part of Clayton’s economic rights, but the contract length hasn’t been revealed.
Clayton was a major highlight in Santa Catarina last year, and also had proposals from Corinthians and Palmeiras. He is the sixth signing of Atlético for the 2016 season, after Erazo, Júnior Urso, Juan Cazares, Hyuri and Robinho.
