Santos forward Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa and Palmeiras attacker Gabriel Jesus have both excelled for their respective clubs and are currently two of the main focus of Brazilian football today.
The youngsters have received praise from former Brazilian striker and World Player of the Year, Fenômeno Ronaldo who believes the pair have lots of quality. He said: I’m betting on two talents, they’re still developing, but have a lot of quality. Gabriel of Santos and Gabriel Jesus of Palmeiras are very young talents, and haven’t even turned 20.”
Ronaldo has good reason to believe that the two kids have a promising future ahead. Despite both being under 20, they have won space in their clubs, and also in the hearts of their supporters. Promoted to the professional cast of Santos in 2013, aged just 16, Gabigol went through ups and some downs in recent seasons. In 2015, the striker was matured, established himself in the first team of Santos and contributed positively to the performances of his team, and was the top scorer of the Copa do Brasil with eight goals.
With less experience than Gabigol, Gabriel Jesus was integrated into the professional squad of Palmeiras in 2015. Even at the age of 17, he was expected among the professionals by club fans after he scored 37 goals in just 22 games during the U17 Campeonato Paulista in 2014. His first goal for the senior team was decisive in the team’s qualification to the second round of the Copa do Brasil, which was eventually won by Palmeiras at the end of the season.
