Atlético Mineiro completed the signings of Robinho and Júnior Urso last week, but club"s board are not yet satisfied, as they try to reach an agreement for Figueirense striker Clayton.
According to the football superintendent of Figueirense, Cleber Giglio, Galo have made an offer for Clayton, who was the main highlight of the Santa Catarina team last season. On Saturday, Clayton was a starter for Figueirense in the 2-0 defeat against Criciúma in the Santa Catarina Championship. Giglio made it clear that Atlético must meet the demands of the club, player and agent Jorge Machado to find a positive outcome in the negotiations. He said: “Yes, Atlético did [official proposal. They intend to take Clayton, and are talking to us, but details of what"s being spoken is something between the clubs. There was contact from Eduardo Maluf [director of football at Atlético] by phone, and there was no meeting. I know Maluf since a long time in football. We talked about football, among other things, including a possible departure of Clayton."
Giglio puts the pressure on the hands of Atlético to try and complete a deal before the deadline to register the players for this year"s Copa Libertadores. He added: “Clayton is not negotiated and will continue to play for Figueirense. For now, there is no deal at all. If Clayton, Jorge Machado and Figueirense don"t think that it"s a good deal, then Clayton plays at Figueirense."
