Cruzeiro captain Fábio rejects latest renewal offer
Cruzeiro captain and goalkeeper Fábio has turned down the latest renewal proposal put forward by the club, and a deal looks increasingly difficult at the moment.
As reported by Globo Esporte, Fábio had informed the club about his salary demands through his representative João Sérgio, but Cruzeiro offered less than what the player requested. According to a person in the high command of Cruzeiro, if the goalkeeper doesn’t lower his demands, there’s a very high chance of Fábio leaving the club after 11 years of service. The report reckons Cruzeiro’s proposal was high considering Brazilian football standards, but it’s unlikely an agreement would be reached in the coming days. Fábio, whose contract runs out in 2016 March, is the player with most appearances in Cruzeiro’s history. With the club, he has won the Campeonato Mineiro five times, Copa do Brasil once and the Brasileirão two times.
