The Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder is now targeting a regular role in Dunga’s side after arriving as a late replacement for the injured Luiz Gustavo.
Fred was handed his full debut in the Seleção’s 2-0 victory over Mexico on Sunday. The 22-year-old made two substitute appearances in the November victories over Turkey and Austria last year, but is now desperate to become a regular member of the first team. He told SporTV: “It was very special for me. I think we put in a good performance and it was great to leave the field to applause from the crowd. I am very happy with my debut as a starter and now I hope to continue in the side and help the team. I trained well this week and Dunga gave me this opportunity to play tonight. I think I did well, I helped the team to victory.”
