The Brazilian left-back made his Chelsea debut against WAC RZ Pellets on Wednesday and now he is targeting 90 minutes as he builds toward fitness.
Filipe Luis started the Blues’ 1-1 draw in Austria, taking his place in a strong back four alongside Branislav Ivanovic, John Terry and Kurt Zouma.
“It was really nice to play for the first time in a Chelsea shirt,” he told the club’s official website.
“It’s still very new for me in terms of tactics and relationships with my team-mates, but my adaptation has been good. I know I’m not in the best condition physically yet but with training that will come and I will be ready to start the season.”
Chelsea were rarely threatening during his time on the pitch and the game proved to be a comfortable way to ease himself to a new side.
“The first half was quite easy because we had the ball and controlled the game, I didn’t really have any difficulties on my side of the pitch. We played against a good side, in the second half I was really tired but an hour was perfect for me. The most important thing was that I didn’t pick up any injuries and I felt good.”
The 28-year-old is relaxed about whether he will play 90 minutes in Sunday’s friendly and is happy to leave the decision up to manager José Mourinho.
“I leave everything in the hands of José. If he thinks I’m ready to play 90 minutes I’m ready but I just want to do my best to help the team win games.”
