Flamengo romped into the final of the Carioca state championship ater completing a 6-1 aggregate win over Cabofriense on Saturday evening. The Rio de Janeiro giants were never troubled by their opponents, who had surprised many by getting as far as they did in the tournament.

After a 3-0 first leg victory, Flamengo scored as many again, two goals from Argentine striker Lucas Mugni giving them a solid 2-0 half time lead. The 22 year-old, who joined from Colon in the close season, has certainly impressed after his move and is now on the verge of a first Brazilian title.

The game was put to bed after 65 minutes when Joao Paulo, on loan from Mogi Mirim, bagged Flamengo’s sixth goal of the tie.

In the final they will face either Fluminense or Vasco da Gama, who play the second leg of their semi final this evening following a 1-1 draw three days ago.
